Change is an ever flowing tide

March 09, 2016

Ah "change"....it's a concept that terrifies some and excites others.
Regardless of how you view it, change is an ever flowing tide that laps constantly at our soul. So contemplating change and preparing ourselves for the next wave is surely a worthwhile exercise.

So how do you deal with it - what does it feel like to you?

Do you dip your toes in, then run back the other way, afraid to immerse yourself in it's depths? Or do you confidently run towards the tides of change lunging forth into the froth of unknown.

Perhaps, like many, you dabble on the edge for a while, dipping your toes in and out until the temperature feels just right, before comfortably walking along the tide's edge!

One thing is certain - CHANGE!! We all experience it and we all approach it differently.

As I recently chatted to a philosophising friend she questioned why we often endure so many "soul searching" periods in our lives. Pondering her query, I replied saying that I thought it was only natural to experience multiple periods of soul searching, given that our life's circumstances are constantly changing.

Why should we expect to only have to "soul search" once or twice to gain all the answers. For every day, week, month and year, we face challenges, changes and uncertainties. And as a result, we take stock, we question, we wonder, we ponder, we explore...ah yes I hear you say "we soul search"...and often!

And if there is anything positive we can take away from change, it's that - the act of soul searching!!

For soul searching brings about creativity, clarity, comfort, and as another friend suggested - resourcefulness and problem solving skills. Getting to know oneself through the ebbs and flows of change can be an uplifting experience.

If you are currently facing a big decision right now, one of the BEST articles I've read on choice is by "Dr Ruth Chang: Philosopher and renowned expert in really hard choices". It is well worth reading at the link below:

Yes change is inevitable, but it's destinations are never permanent, for another tide will eventually wash over us creating another opportunity for renewal.

Think positively about change and SPLASH into soul searching as often as you can!
