The joy of creativity

What better way to experience joy than to create something!!
Life is busy and all too often we get caught up in the rush and forget to take time to play and create. However, doing something creative can bring immense joy into our lives.
It doesn't have to be big - a small activity doing something we love can lift our spirits and make us feel like we've accomplished something.
For example, I recently sat down with my daughter to make some party favour bags for her upcoming birthday party. We had a great time - working with shapes and colours, ribbons and glue. The project was simple and fun. And that's probably where the key lies - if we don't challenge ourselves too much and choose something that's easy and fun, we're sure to enjoy it. Allowing ourselves to share the creative experience also seems to intensify the joy we feel - now that's got to be a good thing!
If you're stuck for ideas, think about how you could incorporate a bit of creativity into your every day life. Perhaps you could wear something more colourful to work. Maybe you could create a new meal from scratch or redecorate a room in your house. For something a little more personal, you could make a handmade card for your partner or start a new hobby - beading, dance, painting, photography.
Reading is also a great way to inspire creativity. Pick up a magazine and flip through the pages - you'll be amazed by what you'll find and see. Magazines like "Frankie" are a great source for inspiration. Books such as "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron also provide great creative insights. And online craft and artisan galleries like Etsy and Madeit are great sites to visit for creative stimulation.
There are so many things we can do to creatively enrich our lives. So get cracking - look around for inspiration, use your imagination and start creating today. It's sure to cultivate joy.
