Paint your own rainbow

July 20, 2020

Today the world ripped the rainbow out of my sky, so I painted it back in!

We all have those days when we’re blindsided by the unexpected. Whether the circumstances are shocking, nasty or something else entirely, a surprising blow can send us reeling and make us feel like all our joy has been taken away.

But herein lies the choice – we are not our circumstances! It is not what happens to us that defines us, but how we respond.

When it feels like the sky is caving in or the dark clouds are looming, get out your metaphorical brush (or literal one) and paint a big bright rainbow overhead.

Recognise that sometimes crap things happen to good people and at the core, you are still the good person you have always been.

There are many things we can do to paint the rainbow back into our dark day skies.

  • Take a walk in relaxing surrounds
  • Sit by water for a while and feel the calmness envelop you
  • Dress up and take yourself to your favourite café
  • Phone a supportive friend
  • Write an ode to yourself or list at least 3 things you admire about yourself
  • Take a long lingering bath
  • Read a book in a cosy corner
  • Watch a favourite flick
  • Sit with your pet and feel the love
  • Pull out those long forgotten paints and dabble in colour
  • Play with beads and fabrics or something crafty
  • Search “positive quotes” or “bright artwork” on Instagram or Pinterest
  • Go to a plant nursery and just soak up the green
  • Plant a special “happy tree” in the garden, so that you have something to nurture in the coming months and years
  • Sit in the sun with a delicious cuppa
  • Drive to a favourite spot and admire the view
  • Give - it's been proven that giving can lift moods
Whatever you do, don’t forget to keep your rainbow bright – retouch it as often as you need, and if it fades completely, get out your widest, happiest brush and paint a bigger, brighter one.

Don’t let anyone or anything dim your brilliance. Choose colour, choose radiance, choose joy!

You are not your circumstances, you are you, and there is no one quite as vibrant!

Shine!
